Creating my own puppet

Over the duration of my Studio 1 project I realised that the puppets I was animating with were restricting my animations and not allowing me to produce my best work. As a result I decided to create my own puppet that would be more tailored to the animations I wanted to produce.

Before my puppet was fabricated by my university technician Mary Murphy. I first created a maquette of what I wanted the puppet to look like and produced some scale drawings, I then worked with Mary to decide upon the puppets final design and what materials would be used to create the characters clothes.

Once the puppet had been fabricated and I discovered how to move the eyes and how to re-sculpt the modelling clay head. I then began animating and was really pleased with the puppets ease of use and how subtle I could make the characters expressions, which has allowed me to improve my animation skills.
